Project Management Foundations
Five one-day workshops providing in depth understanding of project management
1: Successful Project Management and the Leader’s Role, an orientation to the five phases of successful project management
This workshop provides a complete overview of the five phases of project management (Initiate, Plan, Execute, Control, and Close) and the leader’s role in each phase. We use the established best practices as defined in the Project Management Institutes Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) and provide real life examples from participants and from the facilitators 30 years of experience. Participants will receive a copy of The Project Management Toolbox, which includes checklists, worksheets, and tools for successful project management.
This series of five one day workshops provides a thorough foundation in best practice tools and processes for project management. Participants who complete this series will have satisfied the 35 hour educational pre-requisite required by the PMI before taking the PMP exam.
2: Project Initiation and Communication, building the foundation for project success
This session explores the project initiation phase in depth. Participants will learn how to define the project for success, establish project objectives, delimit the scope of the project, and develop the statement of work. You will identify stake holders for your project and conduct a stakeholder analysis. We will explore how you select and form the project team. Participants will receive a copy of 8 Lies of Teamwork, the facilitator’s breakthrough work on building and sustaining effective teams.
3: Project Planning, building the roadmap for project success
This session explores the project planning phase in depth. Participants will learn how to establish and gain stakeholder agreement on the work breakdown structure (establish tasks and milestones), network diagram (sequence tasks and milestones), and the workable schedule. We will examine how to establish the budget and refine the project scope to balance results, time, resources, and quality.
4: Project Execution and Control, delivering project success
This session explores the project execution and control phases in depth. Participants will learn the critical element of project execution, including establishing leadership, team formation and maintenance, stakeholder communications, problem solving, conflict resolution, and securing needed resources. We will also build knowledge around how one monitors progress, takes action to keep the project on track, and manages changes in scope and deliverables.
5: Change Leadership and Closure, Insuring future success
This session examines the project manager’s role as a change agent and how change leadership is critical to project success. We will examine the Project Close phase in depth, including stakeholder signoff, learning from the project, and the final project report. Participants will gain an understanding and appreciation of the fact that closing the project is not an event or simply and end. Rather, it is the culmination of a project long emphasis on change leadership that leads to the ultimate success of stakeholders saying … “Yes, you exceeded my expectations on this project.”
